David Wheeler
Senior Partnerdwheeler@stakeholderresearch.com David Wheeler is Dean of the Faculty of Management at Dalhousie University
in Halifax. Prior to joining Dalhousie in 2006, David was Erivan K Haub Professor of Business and Sustainability
at the Schulich School of Business and Founding Director of the Institute
for Research and Innovation in Sustainability at York University, Toronto.
He is also Visiting Professor of Stakeholding and Sustainable Enterprise
at Kingston University (UK). David was formerly Executive Director of
Environmental and Social Policy at The Body Shop International. This
involved strategic oversight of sustainability issues and non-financial
auditing and reporting, as well as human resources and learning.
David has worked in more than 30 countries worldwide and has consulted
frequently with the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group),
the United Nations (World Health Organization and PanAmerican Health
Organization) and a wide range of government development organizations,
working in Africa and Latin America. He also worked in the UK water industry.
David has worked in the House of Commons as a full-time advisor and has
given evidence to a number of Select Committees and UK Government Departments.
Throughout his career, David has published articles in a wide variety
of medical, academic and popular journals. He has done numerous television
and radio broadcasts on environmental policy and business ethics. David
was principal-author of The Stakeholder Corporation, the first business
text to be endorsed by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. He was an advisor
to the UK Government on governance aspects of the Company Law Review
and was a member of the UK Government Advisory Committee on Consumer
Products and the Environment. He was co-founder of the UK business-led
Committee of Inquiry - A New Vision for Business - which reported to
Prime Minister Tony Blair in November 1999.
