SRA Senior Partners Barry Colbert and Elizabeth Kurucz head an in-depth study into the positive role for collaborative environmental non-profit organizations in helping Canadian organizations address environmental issues. The purpose of the study is to increase the capacity for progressive collaboration on critical environmental issues among business, government, civil society and academic partners. The study is funded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and is scheduled to conclude in 2011.
The objectives of the research program are to: 1) Examine and further develop a positive role for collaborative environmental non-profit organizations (CENPOs) in helping to address environmental issues by examining the organizational factors that enable and inhibit constructive collaborative approaches, both from the point of view of the CENPO and its multiplicity of partners; 2) Explore the processes of 'institutional entrepreneurship' giving rise to innovations in regional environmental policy frameworks as platforms for action; and 3) Accelerate and grow the capacity for research and organizational management relating to environmental issues in general and climate change mitigation in particular.
