Stuart Turnbull

Stuart Turnbull is an experienced organization change practitioner and consultant. He is a partner in Stakeholder Research Associates UK Ltd. and a consultant with Ashridge Consulting Ltd.

Stuart has fifteen years of practical and managerial experience in the implementation of learning and development solutions. For the last ten years, he has focused on managing and facilitating programs of organizational change. As an organizational consultant, Stuart has worked in three international organizations in a variety of roles as well as running an independent consulting practice for two years.

Stuart’s core capability is the facilitation of alignment within organizations, and the social systems they are part of, as they work through the challenges of change. In this capacity, he has worked with organizations such as the International Finance Corporation while it has been mainstreaming sustainability into its investment strategy, Levi Strauss (Europe) throughout a long process of changing ways of working, marketing strategy and brand reinvention and Barclays Bank (UK retail operations) developing their leadership capability through coaching. As clients tackle adaptive problems, Stuart enables them to build and sustain dialogue-based solutions that deliver an increased likelihood of effective change.

Stuart has an MSc in Organisational Consulting from Ashridge, UK and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University, UK.


Jane (Thomson) Comeault

Jane Thomson is a sustainability consultant based in Vancouver, B.C. She has worked with non-profit, public- and private-sector clients on sustainability issues, helping to raise awareness and understanding of the strategic importance of sustainability in their organizations and to implement sustainability initiatives. Organizations she has worked with include the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Globe Foundation, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Canada’s National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE), and Enbridge Gas Distribution.

Jane’s research experience spans capital markets and sustainability investing, sustainability of the energy sector, the role of business and sustainability in developing countries, human capital management and business strategies for sustainability. Jane has conducted extensive qualitative research involving stakeholder interviews and the synthesis of desk-based research material with interview data. In her capacity as a researcher, Jane co-authored a book chapter on the prospects of private-sector ingenuity for the future of energy entitled Fuelling the Future (Anansi, 2003) as well as co-authoring a chapter in the next volume in this series, entitled Feeding the Future (Anansi 2004). 

Jane is also a professional engineer with five years experience as a mechanical engineering consultant, responsible for design and project management for numerous industrial and commercial clients in Canada, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and Kenya. She has a Masters of Environmental Studies, specializing in Business & Sustainability from York University and a B.Sc. (M.E.) from the University of Manitoba.


David Simpson

David is Principal of a Toronto-based socio-economic consulting firm specializing in ethics and corporate social responsibility, international development, and participatory action research and planning. He has worked as a researcher with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and as an economic development officer with the Embassy of Argentina in Canada. His international experience includes assignments in Asia, Latin America, North America and Europe.

A former deputy managing editor of the Canadian Foreign Policy Journal, David has also served as a Teaching Assistant at Carleton University, as well as a course instructor in the continuing education program. He has lectured at the University of Toronto, McMaster University and the Schulich School of Business at York University.

David has been involved in a number of consulting projects both nationally and internationally. Some of the organizations he has worked with include: The Royal Canadian Mint, Canadian Cooperative Association, Nike, Transparency International, Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace and the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Past Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Ethics & Corporate Policy, David has also served as an advisor to Environment Canada, as well as to Natural Resources Canada on Ethics and Values in the Public Sector and was the social auditor for a regional financial institution's Social Responsibility Report.

David holds a Master's degree in International Social & Economic Development. He has language capabilities in English, French and Spanish.


Kevin McKague

Kevin McKague is a Senior Research Fellow with the Institute for Research and Innovation in Sustainability at York University.  Kevin has more than 10 years experience as a leader in managing innovative research, education and consulting projects involving sustainable enterprise and international development.

Most recently, Kevin has worked on projects for the International Finance Corporation (IFC), including the writing of 10 best practice case studies of sustainable enterprise by IFC client firms in a variety of sectors. Kevin also has led major IFC research projects on Solar Energy and Water and Sanitation. He has co-authored four MBA teaching cases of sustainable business strategy and is co-author with David Wheeler et al on Creating Sustainable Local Enterprise Networks in the Fall 2005 issue of MIT Sloan Management Review.

Kevin has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business in Toronto and an undergraduate degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, which focused on international development.  Kevin has worked in Africa, including Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania, as well as in India and the Middle East.
